Normafa project in Budapest

In this project I worked with 2 architecture students and myself from the graphic design department. The task was the redevelopment of a forest area in Budapest for hiking.
We went out to the area several times and sized it up to understand how we can work with it and assessed several paths. We decided not to touch the nature itself too much, as we found that the most crucial part in the project so we decided to develop the area with eco friendly and mostly wooden structures to help the people who visit the area to be able to get around the forest more easily. As a graphic designer I designed a map of the area with a notation that the visitors could find in the main wooden house. I made the map in a creative and illustrative way with lots of details to draw the eye so it’s not just a dry explanatory kind of map. I chose and matched the colour palette with care to create an aesthetic image. The greens are the nature areas and the blues are the living and house areas, that is why they are illustrated with sharper geometric shapes. I also paid attention of what kind of trees grow on the area and studied about the area to create the map. The architects worked on the development plan of the area and designed wooden benches along the paths, a main wooden house with eco-friendly toilette and a rope climbing course for kids. As a game for the visitors we came up with a geo catching game that people can play in the forest. They have to find geocaches to complete a story and put it together and find little surprises in the boxes.
The map is handy and is easy to carry around. I especially enjoy printed graphics and illustrations on different kinds of paper. Once such a map/brochure is used it can become a souvenir.
