For the Penguin books project I designed a cover for Haruki Murakami’s ‘Norwegian Wood’. While reading the book I was touched by how sad the whole story was. I used vivid colours because the protagonists are struggling and have a hard time talking about their inner feelings while playing it cool on the outside; as if they would be happy and everything would be just fine. The vivid colours on the cover represent the ‘lie’ that the characters are living in. There are so many moments from the book that I found essential to show on the cover to get a glimpse of the important elements in story. I designed an illustrative, colourful storytelling on the cover. While the vivid colours tell the ‘lie’, the illustrations tell the dark truth, reality about the story.
