Janusz Korczak children's book illustration

I love working on illustrations to all kinds of genres but this children’s book illustration was especially kind to my heart. As a university project, also an illustration tender that I got shorlisted for, I got a short synopsis of one of Janusz Korzak’s books and was asked to create artwork for it. Getting familiar with the text and certain events in Korzak’s life - namely that he was the director of an orphanage in Poland prior to WW I -, I immediately thought of working with a regular pencil and a limited number of colours. As the story itself is about children, with the colours and simple shapes I wanted to portray a naive imagery and playfulness.
Colouring outside the lines gives an impression of simplicity and a kind of uneasiness as well. I enjoyed doodling the loads of figures, movements and gestures.
