Norman Foster & Foster+Partners (Review)

xx November, 2020

Sir Norman Foster founded Foster+Partners in 1967, which have established a global studio for sustainable architecture, engineering, urbanism and industrial design. Since the 1970s, the firm got its fame a worldwide reputation after established its international practices.

With his 15 offices around the globe, the design studio had worked as both ethically and culturally diverse yet treated equally. Through their design practice, structural and environmental engineers, together with other specialist design, work alongside with the architects to develop fully integrated design solutions (Foster + Partners, 2020).

Moreover, every project that were made starts with a fresh thinking, leading to a solution that is customisable to both their respected client and ideas. The design team will always consider the built environment as a whole and to apply a truly integrated approach to be continually responsible for the design (Beard, 2011).

Company History

Norman Foster is known to be an award-winning and productive British architect. His architecture designs are famous for sleek, modern designs of steel and glass through a sort of innovations and solutions (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2020)

Around the world, his design had been well dominated and accomplished with many big companies such as Apple.Inc partnering the design firm. Surprisingly, Foster + Partners has more than 1,000 employees becoming an international firm. At the same time, it manages projects with a considerable amount of demand and budget throughout the nations (Biography, 2020).

Foster working performance had done more like a global manager than being a "hands-on draftsman" which essentially focused on managing time and design process (Biography, 2020). No wonder he was knighted, a life peerage, and multiple of honours by the 1990s, while becomes the second British architect won multiple awards.

Design Process

The earliest idea by Foster started with the idea of a technologically advanced "shed," which shows a structure that acts as enclosure while surrounded by a lightweight fabrication.

By far, Foster's design had been more fluid and flexible connection through inside and outside spaces. He aims and promises to present a "sense of humanity" throughout futuristic and environmentally friendly design spaces (Foster + Partners, 2020).  Most of Foster's buildings utilised green spaces to allow natural light into the building spaces. Therefore, this would balance out his futuristic and high-tech appearance while enabling energy efficiency to the design scheme.

Who is the audience at your chosen venue?
What language and tone is used (optimistic? critical? technical? other?)?
Is there a specific writing format used?
What is the architectural focus of the venue (technology? recovery? sustainability? other?)?
