Re Mida | Hypertextual Adventure

The project
This project aims to create a hypertextual adventure inspired by an already existing story, in this case, the Ovidian myth of King Midas. The game has been realized using HTML5 for the hypertexual structure and 3D models for the scenes.​​​​​​​
The concept
The original myth has been revisited and placed in the contemporary age.The characters play the roles of metropolitan gangsters, despite being inspired by the ones in the Ovidian story. For this reason, the set of the story is urban, like the streets of Los Angeles. In addition to this, the stylistic choice of using the only grayscale aims to both arouse a feeling of unease typical of the Noir genre and enhance a fundamental element in the story: gold.
The hypertextual structure
After an analysis of the story and its structure, the text has been divided into narrative modules and some extra scenes have been added to the traditional plot. At this point, the standard structure of the story has been transformed into a hypertextual one, with multiple decision points for the user. Two minigames enrich the overall Choose Your Own Adventure game.​​​​​​​
Characters and settings
Having defined the structure of the game, a representative image for each scene has been created thanks to 3D modeling. Characters and settings have been sketched, modeled and then rendered with the software 3DMax.​​​​​​​

The interface
At this point, the layout of the standard page of the game has been designed.
On a 1000x700px page, the image of the scene is on the left and the text of the story on the right. The actions the user can do in each scene are highlighted within the text or with the usage of some buttons.​​​​​​​
The minigames
"Corsa all'oro" is the first minigame the user has to play at. It is divided into three levels:
The first one is a platform, regulated by a timer, and the goal of the user is to turn six objects into gold ones to move on to the next level. If the user fails to complete the level in the pre-established time, he must repeat it. Moreover, there is a further possibility, not explicit to the player: by hitting the female figure present in the scene, the user exits the minigame and continues in the story.​​​​​​​
The second level is a maze. The player has to reach Midas' avoiding the obstacles, represented by the police cars. Also in this case, if the user fails to pass the level, he must repeat it.​​​​​​​
The third one is a platform like the first level. Also here there is an untold possibility for the user to change the narration, by hitting the child in the game and turning her into gold. Otherwise, the user finishes the minigame and continues in the story.​​​​​​​
"Abbatti il muro" is the second minigame. Inspired by Breakout, in this game the user has to destroy the wall made up of bricks. Success or failure in the game redirect the player into two different narratives.​​​​​​​
