Each year since 2018 I have created a work of art on Christmas Eve featuring a native animal in the silence of a winter night. One of my favorite things to do is to take a walk in the woods on Christmas Eve, especially on a starry night.
"Silent Night 2022: Beaver Pond"
"Silent Night 2022: Beaver Pond" was one of four designs on the theme of native animals of the American Midwest as they might be seen on Christmas Night. I depicted a beaver munching on an aspen branch in a forest pond. The geometric shape of a circle repeats in the beaver and the moon contrasting with the quilt-inspired fractured shapes in the background.
"Silent Night Winter Fox"
The fox is such a beautiful animal I had to dedicate one of the designs in this series to this sleek denizen of the woods. The aurora borealis lights the night sky above.
"Silent Night Raccoon"
Both cute and photogenic as well as intelligent and capable of getting into trouble. When I here footsteps on the roof at night I know it is a raccoon
"Silent Night Jack Pine Rabbit"
I picked a good subject for a truly wintery Christmas night of 2022 along the shores of Lake Michigan. Only a random rabbit in its full winter coat might be out in the bitter cold of a Michigan Jack Pine forest on a night like this.
"Silent Night Snowy Owl"
I am continuing my series of Christmas card designs. This year's card features a snowy owl in silent flight through the forest on Christmas eve.

Inspired by quilt designs and the work of Charley Harper, these illustrations have become a Christmas tradition of mine and a way of sending a bit of joy and a message of peace out to the world.
