Colorblind Friendly Maps
Identified Problem
The problem of usability of maps for colorblind people as they
struggle with distinguishing certain colors making it hard for
them to read maps.
Proposed Solution
Developing a colorblind friendly navigation app and also
implementing an educational awareness campaign alongside it
to help promote inclusive design and improve map usability
for individuals with colorblindness.
The Navigation app
The navigation map was created to make a better experience for people with colorblindness when using maps. In the app I had created different options for people to choose from depending on what type of colorblindness they have. This will then alter the colors shown on screen creating an easier and tailored experience for people with colorblindness. The navigation app is for people living in Stellenbosch or for tourists who are visiting creating an inclusive environment. The app displays two options for people to either visit the wine farms or the restaurants in the area. Once a location pin has been selected information will pop up on the screen about the location as well as an image of the food or area. This will take away the problem of some maps being too text heavy and will only display the information the user would want to see.
What the normal coloured map would look to people who have colourblindness.
