Indios en Malasia
Mariamman representa dentro de la religión Hindú la fuerza de la Madre Tierra y es ella quien protege al viajero en tierras lejanas. También es Marianmman conocida por proteger a sus seguidores contra eventos demoniacos.
Muchos de los migrantes que dejaron la India hace miles de años y se asentaron en estas tierras para comerciar con sus gentes vinieron probablemente protegidos por ella, y fueron estos primeros comerciantes quienes nombraron al nuevo lugar haciendo referencia a sus montañas. Malasia, vendría del Tamil “Malai” o del Sanskrito “Malayadvipa”, y significaría eso: “Montaña”o “Tierra de montañas”.
Hoy en día, aunque es un país musulmán tal cual lo indica la media luna con la estrella dentro en su bandera, Malasia tiene una comunidad india que representa el 8% del total de la población. Algunos, descendientes de de los primeros indios que hace casi dos mil años llegarona la región, otros, expatriados modernos.
Es por esto que en Kuala Lumpur, en la capital, devotos acuden todos los días para manifestarse al templo de SriMahamariamman, el más antiguo y más rico templo Hindú del país.
Esa tarde, en la moderna Kuala Lumpur, se me anticipo, con cuentagotas, lo que sería la caótica y atrapante India.

Indians in Malaysia
Mariamman is well known in Hindu mythology because she embodies Mother Earth and she is the one who protects the traveller in foreign lands. Also is Marianmman the one who takes care of her followers against demoniac events.
Many of the migrants who left India thousands of years ago and settled in this lands to trade with their people came protected by her probably, and were this first traders who named the new place making reference to its mountains. Malaysia could come either from the Tamil “Malai” or from the Sanskrit “Malayadvipa”,and that is what it means: “Mountain” or “Land of Mountains”.
Although is now days a Muslim country as it is posible to see in the crescent moon with the star in its flag, Malaysia has an Indian community which represents the 8% of the total population. Some descendents perhaps from the first Hindus that arrive almost two thousand years ago, others, modern expats.
This is why in Kuala Lumpur, in the Capital City, followers go every day to the SriMahammariamman Temple, the oldest and richest Hindu Temple in the country.
That afternoon, in the modern city of Kuala Lumpur, I had a flash of what the chaotic and mind-blowing India was going to be.
