When this client, now associate of mine, contacted me to make a koi carp design for his clothing line, I was beyond excited. I absolutely love koi carps and
what they stand for.
I believe this passion shows through the entirety of this project. Have a look for yourself!
I often skip the paper stage and jump right into Adobe Illustrator, but I figured this project deserved a proper sketch, in the traditional way.
I ended up really happy about how the paper version turned out and how efficiently
I was able to bring it into illustrator.
Recently I have been getting a lot of requests to show more insight into how I work and make my designs come to life. So I shared the digital process I went through to create this koi carp.
I got a lot of positive reactions on my timelapse on creating the linework this illustration is based upon. I anticipated this and kept recording while I already started coloring and shading.

UPDATE
A few months later I decided to revisit this project, play with some of the colors and change it's purpose. As my client never ended up using this design, I changed it up to work as an apparel design for FaZe, a big gaming and entertainment organisation.
