Les vraies demoiselles d’Avignon vues par des femmes est une installation éducative, didactique, collaborative et participative créée par The Woman Power. Il s’agit d’une réponse visuelle à l’oeuvre Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907) du peintre espagnol Pablo Picasso par des femmes photographes et dans laquelle le genre féminin est au cœur de la narration. Qui sont les vraies demoiselles? Qu’ont-elles de particulier? Cette installation s’inscrit dans un discours contemporain où les notions d’appropriation et de réappropriation constituent les pierres angulaires de la démarche.
The Real Desmoiselles d'Avignon viewed by women is an educational, didactic, collaborative and participative installation created by The Woman Power. It is a visual response to the work Les Demoiselles d´Avignon (1907) by the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso by female photographers and in which the female genre is at the heart of the narrative. Who are the real ladies? What is special about them? This installation is part of a contemporary discourse where the notions of appropriation and reappropriation constitute the cornerstones of the process.
En s’inspirant du concept du tableau original, de la palette des couleurs au propos artistique, The Woman Power et les 6 artistes sélectionnées engagent le dialogue avec l'oeuvre iconique de Pablo Picasso d’un point de vue féminin et ce, à travers le médium de la photographie (analogue et digitale) ainsi que du collage digital. Leur vision artistique respective est illustrée par le biais des différents sujets abordés: de la relation de l'artiste et du modèle aux concepts d'exotisme, de fétichisme en passant par la représentation en art. Grâce à son concept novateur, l'installation Les vraies demoiselles d'Avignon vues par des femmes met en lumière une nouvelle génération d'artistes féminines évoluant dans la scène locale et dont la démarche artistique est criante d'authenticité.
Inspired by the concept of the original painting, the palette of colors with an artistic approach, The Woman Power and the 6 selected artists engage in dialogue with the iconic work of Pablo Picasso from a feminine point of view, through the medium of photography (analog and digital) as well as digital collage. Their respective artistic vision is illustrated through the various subjects addressed: from the relationship of the artist and the model to the concepts of exoticism, fetishism through representation in art. Thanks to its innovative concept, the installation The real young ladies of Avignon seen by women highlights a new generation of female artists evolving in the local scene and whose artistic approach is crying out for authenticity.
